Why Hire Local Plumbers in the White Bear Lake Area?

Why Hire Local Plumbers in the White Bear Lake Area?

White Bear Lake Plumbers | Mahtomedi Plumbers | Birchwood Plumbers | Grant Township Plumbers A good rule of thumb to remember is a solid, local Plumbing and Well contractor with roots in your area is typically better than a nationwide company, because they are more likely to take a personal stake in the work they do. To a plumber, local referrals and references are very important to their business and a company that is operating locally will value that.

Local plumbing contractors mean just that, they are local and accessible should you need anything after the initial sale…make sure a company is indeed local by checking them out on the internet, make a call to the phone number listed (make sure it’s a local area code), ask for local references and contact a random sample, and physically go to inspect the work if possible.

Make sure the company is accredited through state regulators and licensing boards. It may save some money hiring your cousin because you know he has installed a sink in his house before but there is no felling of security once he leaves your home and the sink starts leaking.

Call your county offices and run a check for a plumbing company’s license as you want to make sure you are working with a licensed plumbing contractor from your area.

Paul Vadnais Plumbing, Update yor Plumbing Pipes

If you live in an older home and you've experienced cracked pipes or if you are disappointed in your water pressure, there’s a good chance you can probably blame galvanized piping.

A lot of older homes in the Mahtomedi, White Bear Lake area have galvanized pipes installed for Plumbing the water supply to all the fixtures in the house. Galvanized pipes were also commonly installed as a waste line running from sinks and tubs.

These types of pipes are most often found in homes that were built over 50 years ago.  Back then, it was believed that coating metal pipes with a thin layer of zinc would help prevent corrosion. However, as it turns out, galvanized pipes developed all kinds of problems and are now commonly replaced with copper or plastic piping.

White Bear Lake Plumbers | Mahtomedi Plumbers | Birchwood Plumbers | Grant Township Plumbers | Stillwater PlumbersSome Disadvantages of Galvanized Pipes?

  • Rusting - Although the zinc barrier in galvanized pipes does prevent rusting for a certain amount of time, it eventually wears out. When this happens, your pipes begin to rot from the inside out, which can eventually lead to a leaky or broken pipe.
  • Unstable Connection Joints - The threaded joints that connect old plumbing pipes are often unstable and prone to leaks or rusting.  The threaded joints have a tendency to wear at the zinc coating of the pipes, which can quickly expose the metal underneath and cause corrosion.
  • Water Contamination - When galvanized pipes begin to rot, the corrosion materials and lead from exposed metal can seep into your water supply. This compromises the quality of your home’s water and can even change its color.
  • Mineral Buildup - The zinc coating in galvanized pipes reacts with the minerals in your water supply. When this happens, those minerals begin to form a plaque that coats the inside of your pipes. Over time, that plaque begins to restrict your home’s water flow.

Have A Toilet that won't flush? The Power of the Perfect Plunge

Have A Toilet that won't flush? The Power of the Perfect Plunge

.

The plunger is a good enough “go to” tool when you are trying to loosen a simple clog, but the trick is in knowing how to use it and getting the right plunger to begin with.

White Bear Lake Plumbers \ Mahtomedi Mn Plumbers \ Birchwood Mn Plumbers | Grant Township PlumbersNow your thinking aren’t all plungers the same?
No they are not!
The best option for this job is specifically a toilet plunger and it can be found for about 10 bucks.
You may run across other types of plungers, like a sink plunger but they won’t work well for a toilet because of the shape needed to get a proper seal.

The one we want is the type where the “bell” is enclosed with a flange and fits snugly into the opening at the bottom of the toilet.
Now that you have got the right tool, it’s time to learn how to use it like a pro.
Just think how impressed your friends and neighbors will be, Okay … maybe not so much.
But if you want to improve the chances of your success to get rid of the clog then here is the right way to use that fancy new plunger.

First off you’ll want to fill the plunger with water and then center the mouth (flange) of the plunger on the opening at the bottom of the toilet where everything is supposed to drain.
Next take some short up and down strokes.
This will help the plunger to get good suction on the toilet.
Now when the plunger has good suction, it’ll feel like it’s stuck to the bottom of the toilet and you should feel pressure when you pull up on the handle.
Now we are ready to break up that clog! Push and pull with fast short strokes a few times.
Make sure the plunger maintains suction while you do this.
Then pull up to break the suction and break the clog up.

White Bear Lake Plumbers | Mahtomedi Mn Plumbers | Birchwood Mn Plumbers | Grant Township Plumbers | Dellwood Mn Plumbers Drawing the clog up in this manner keeps the clog from being forced further down the drain and impacting it making your problem clog even worse.
If it doesn’t work the first time try it again.
Once you have your clog broke you then you can flush.
But make sure the water is back to its proper level in the bowl before flushing again or you could have a nasty flood.

If the clog won’t break up and water won’t flush then its likely you have a more serious situation and it’s time to call a licensed plumber.

Plumbers in White Bear lake to fix your low water pressure

How to Fix Low Water Pressure

White Bear Lake Plumbers | Mahtomedi Plumbers | Birchwood Plumbers
The next step to fixing the water pressure is to make sure that all the water valves are fully open because if they are only partially open then you are only receiving a portion of the water pressure. This step is key because it is often the main reason why homes have low water pressure. If these valves are not fully open then it is important to open them and check to see if this makes a difference. The next step is to inspect for any clogs or crimps in the water pipes, if it is a new home or if it has been tampered with recently there can often be clogs in the pipes.

White Bear Lake Plumbers | Mahtomedi Plumbers | Birchwood Plumbers
Tampering with some of these pipes and other parts of the house can cause serious problems to the home so it is important to be careful. Call a professional plumber if there are any major problems or if the water pressure cannot be fixed by these solutions. It is important to know the extent of your abilities because trying to fix these problems on your own can often result in costly repairs. Calling a professional can save your home from having to undergo costly repairs because of the problems that can arise when trying to fix the problem on your own.

Some minor steps taken to fix water pressure are replacing the shower or faucet piece or increasing pipe sizes. The easiest of these solutions is to replace the showerhead or faucet aerator, this is often what is causing the low water pressure because the piece can be clogged or corroded. Replacing this piece or cleaning it out is a very simple and cost-effective way to fix the water pressure. It is important to call a professional in order to save the home from serious or costly problems that could arise.
